Student Placement Delivers Real-World Learning and Community Impact
May 2026 • Charlie and Mia are 4th-year Nutrition and Dietetics students from Griffith University on the Gold Coast. They have spent the past eight weeks in Taree on their Food Systems Placement under the guidance of the University of Newcastle Department of Rural Health, Port Macquarie. During this time, the N&D students collaborated with the Biripi Women’s Group through Biripi Aboriginal Corporation Medical Centre (ACMC) to co-design, implement and evaluate a 3-week pilot cooking and nutrition education program.

Local Mum Completes Nursing Degree Right Here on the Mid Coast
May 2026 • Taree mother-of-two Carly Walker has officially completed her Bachelor of Nursing with Charles Sturt University, marking a significant personal and professional milestone. Her achievement is particularly notable given she left school before Year 12 and managed to finish her degree without ever having to leave the Mid Coast.

Highlighting her work supporting over 300 health professionals and their families to settle on the Mid Coast, Kate demonstrated that when we prioritise people and community, we build a healthier, more resilient future for us all.

Celebrating Music and Community on Biripi Country
Saturday, 2 May 2026 • The banks of the Manning River came alive with the sound of local music. Djarii Bila: Beats on the Bank, a full-day music festival held at Fotheringham Park on Biripi Country, brought together emerging local talent and national touring acts for a celebration of music, culture, and community connection.
Cultural Orientation – Pilot Program
28 April 2026 • TUC held its first Cultural Orientation Program - the first of many being led by Biripi leaders and Elders. The session was an immersive, place-based learning experience held on Biripi Country. Through storytelling, cultural knowledge sharing, and honest conversations, participants were encouraged to reflect on history, consider its continuing impacts, and explore their own role in contributing to a more respectful and just future.
Second Annual Mullet Run BBQ
31 March 2026 • The Taree community came together in celebration and connection as TUC, alongside Biripi AMS, hosted their second annual Mullet Run BBQ event to celebrate the start of Mullet season.

Taree High School Industry Excursion
18 March 2026 • Students in Years 9 and 10 from Taree High School joined TUC for a Career Industry Excursion designed to expand their perspectives and ignite curiosity. The day saw students venture beyond the classroom to experience real-world workplaces firsthand.
The Community Connector Program – Growing Stronger Every Year
Since October alone, the Community Connector Program has supported 100 professionals to relocate to the MidCoast with their families. These skilled professionals are strengthening vital services across our region — from GPs and nurses to engineers, childcare staff and community leaders.
Empowering Young Women in the Mid Coast
Tuesday, 3 March • Ahead of International Women’s Day 2026, Taree Universities Campus partnered with Regional Industry Education Partnerships (RIEP) to host an inspiring morning dedicated to empowering young women from across the Mid Coast. Year 11 and 12 students from six local schools gathered at TUC for a thoughtful and uplifting event that celebrated the progress made by women in the region while looking toward the future.

Uni Roadshow Parent Information Evening
Tuesday 10 February, 2026 • Taree Universities Campus welcomed families and senior‑year students to our inaugural Uni Roadshow Parent Information Evening. From 5pm, representatives from Charles Sturt University, University of New England, Southern Cross University and University of Newcastle shared the possibilities of regional higher education — all under one roof.
TUC Campus Reopens: A Fresh Start for Regional Students After Flood Recovery
Eight months after the devastating floods of May 2025 left the Taree Universities Campus building barely recognizable, on January 29 we officially reopened our doors, restored and revitalised for the new year. What was once a scene of mud and destruction has been transformed into a fresh, modern study space, ready to welcome a new cohort of students.

Guraa Hackathon: Youth Lead the Charge for Manning River Turtle Conservation
In a display of youth-led conservation, TUC sponsored the Guraa (Manning River turtle) Hackathon, a district-wide event that brought together senior students from five local schools to tackle one of the region's most pressing environmental challenges. Held December 5th at the MidCoast Council, the one-day event was envisioned by Uncle Will Paulson, a local Aboriginal elder and expert, with the goal of connecting young people with Country and inspiring innovative solutions for the protection of the unique Manning River helmeted turtle.
