What’s your connection to the MidCoast?

I have enjoyed many years of involvement in both business and the community in the MidCoast area - the joy of this area is that the businesses community and broader community are often one and the same:

  • Chair of Stacks Law Group, trading as Stacks Law Firm with offices in Taree and Forster

  • Proprietor of Nundoobah Retreat

  • Rotary Foundation Chair of the Rotary Club of Taree on Manning

  • Past Alderman Greater Taree City Council

  • Past chair of fundraising Manning Entertainment Centre

  • Inaugural chair Manning Valley Tourist Association

  • Past board member Manning Base Hospital

I have spent a lifetime in this area (apart from boarding school and university years); I’m married to Deidre, and we’ve taken great delight in raising our four children here.

Why TUC? What does this project mean to you?

This project is about making all the benefits, experiences and joys of university life accessible to those for whom moving away from the area is not practicable or ideal.

A campus collegiate and supportive atmosphere in our area will make completing a university education so much more attainable for local mature age students and school leavers. Their success will bring about innumerable benefits for themselves, their families and the community generally.

What does success look like for you and TUC?

I see a future where, over time, the number of local people engaging in and completing university qualifications increases substantially. I see myself as part of a board which ensures a long-term, sustainable Taree University Campus to facilitate that development.
