“You are not alone. I went through all three of those experiences when I undertook my own study at undergraduate level. I was ‘first in family’, had been 10 years away from any form of study, and wasn’t really sure how to navigate the University systems and gain the confidence to ask for help when I needed it.
In the end I succeeded with my studies and continued all the way to completing my PhD. I am very thankful for the people who helped, mentored, and supported me on this journey. As a result, I see the importance of having someone to turn to with questions. Someone who understands the system and can help you to build self-confidence and achieve to your highest ability.
I would like to ‘pay it forward’ by mentoring students on their educational journey. Be it just helping to explain how things work, translating the difficult ‘Uni’ language or helping you to grow your self-confidence through education. This could be through an email exchange, or via a virtual catch-up through Zoom. I will try where possible to be accommodating of both our busy schedules. Rather than a formal mentoring program, my aim is to tailor the support offered to your individual’s needs.”
