Future Secure for Taree Universities Campus

Taree Universities Campus, CEO, Donna Ballard and Taree Universities Campus, Chair, Dr. Alison McIntosh at the former Greater Taree City Council Building set to be refurbished as the permanent home for Taree Universities Campus from 2023.

MEDIA RELEASE - 14th February 2022

Taree Universities Campus (TUC) now has a permanent home and is set for expansion after LYNE MP Dr David Gillespie announced success in a $5.5 million application to the Federal Coalition Governments’ Black Summer Bushfires Fund.

The announcement this morning secures Taree Universities Campus relocation to the former Council Chambers in Pulteney Street, with the move to be completed by July 2023, when the existing free tenure of the Stacks Building ends. A purpose designed fit out to the space is being planned.

Taree Universities Campus Chair, Dr. Alison McIntosh, says “This is of huge benefit to our area, and we look forward to working with MidCoast Council in securing tenure for our future expansion.”

The TUC Board recognises the vision of Dr. Gillespie in originally conceptualizing a campus and his efforts to secure this funding to provide a permanent space for tertiary education in the MidCoast.

CEO, Donna Ballard adds, “This is not only great news for Taree Universities Campus but also for the growing number of students who have registered to study aided by the critical support of TUC staff at our Regional University Centre”.

Today’s funding announcement comes on the back of Taree Universities Campus Mid Coast Business Awards for 2021 Community Services Award, and 2021 Business of the Year, announced at the online gala evening on Saturday night.

“Business connections and strong links to the community to connect students with potential employers is one of the key initiatives that TUC has developed in this first 12 months,” Mrs. Ballard says, “and to receive recognition on our efforts from the business community is reassuring and affirms we really are making a difference locally”.

The move to the former Council Chambers secures the expansion of training and educational opportunities with other tertiary providers. Organisations can express interest now to learn more on sub-lease arrangements that will likely be available in the Pulteney Street building. Contact via email to ceo@tareeuni.org.au.
