Taree Universities Campus – EduVenture 2023

Media Release: Taree Universities Campus 13th June 2023 EduVenture Launches

The Federally funded Program ‘EduVenture’ will be launched next week, and sees Taree Universities Campus (TUC) partnering with the Australian National University (ANU), to bring together Student Ambassadors, local recent school leavers, and local employers to engage in activities and share stories with six high schools across the MidCoast LGA.

TUC and ANU will coordinate visits from the 19th June to 23rd June to work with the 2023 Year 8 cohort at Taree High, Chatham High, Wingham High, Gloucester High, Bulahdelah Central, and Great Lakes College (7-10 Tuncurry Campus). Next week’s first EduVenture sessions launch a ‘once a term’ visit that follow the same cohort through to Year 9 in 2024.

TUC Education Student Support Officer and EduVenture Project Coordinator, Gemma Death says “The opportunity for students to hear real life examples from other young people in our region speaking on their paths post high school will provide inspiration to connect their interests to potential careers”, adding “It’s great for students to know there are so many options in our region, options that they might not have thought about”.

EduVenture has been designed following community consultative processes identifying local challenges that were barriers for young people in developing their career aspirations, especially in the earlier years of high school.

“I’m looking forward to seeing all the people involved coming together to work with so many students, who are indeed the future of the region”, says TUC Campus Coordinator, Evan Weller, adding “these school visits will hopefully flip the concept of how we engage with students about careers direction as we’re really getting students to think about their life and career pathways with a wider lens”.

The aims of the two-year project are to:

  1. increase the visibility of the different journeys’ students take post school and empower students to make educated choices; and,

  2. increase student self-belief and confidence to tackle decisions and challenges associated with school and transitioning out of school.

The sessions are made possible by Taree Universities Campus (TUC) inclusion in a wider program called ‘The Regional Partnerships Project Pool Program’ and more information can be found on the project website here >.   https://www.tareeuni.org.au/tuc-eduventure-program
