Nathan Wales

About Nathan:

PhD in Geography (USyd), Bachelor of Science / Bachelor of Arts, Australian National University, Postgraduate Certificate in Tertiary Teaching

What is your professional background & experience?

I have worked across the fields of geography, environment and tertiary education. After spending many years working in Government policy, I felt a strong desire to develop skills in research and communication. This led me to postgraduate studies in geosciences and on to various university teaching and research roles in Australia, The Pacific and Southeast Asia. A considerable amount of this time I spent directly supporting students as they navigated their way through the university system. I strongly believe that university education should be accessible and within the reach of all who wish to choose this learning pathway.

What are you excited about bringing to our Campus?

I am excited to work in academic support at TUC. I returned to the Manning Valley with my family 5 years ago, after spending many years in research and teaching at university in Sydney and in the Pacific Islands where I taught students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds. I am passionate about the role university education can have for individuals, families and communities. My previous role as program coordinator and lecturer involved significant amounts of time supporting students through their learning journey, from the day to day to assisting many to gain scholarships to do further studies. I am passionate about accessible services to regional areas and I would hope that my diverse experience will benefit students in supporting their learning journey.
