Uni Roadshow Parent Information Evening

From Monday 9 February, The Regional University Roadshow spent four days on the Mid Coast with representatives from Charles Sturt University, the University of New England, Southern Cross University, and the University of Newcastle visiting local high schools to share vital pathway information.

In response to parents requesting access to information, TUC initiated conversations with the Roadshow Team, resulting in our inaugural Parent Information Evening on Tuesday, 10 February. This strategic addition to the week's schedule ensured that families had a focused opportunity to engage with all four institutions under one roof, addressing the specific questions and concerns as parents supporting their senior students.

All Universities and UAC were well represented, great up to date information presented clearly and concisely. Info on dates, early offers, scholarships and accommodation options was fantastic.
Very impressive, informative evening. Extremely glad I attended.

Comprehensive Insights for Families

Held at the TUC building, the 45-minute presentation covered the essential topics parents need to navigate the transition to higher education. Representatives from Charles Sturt University (CSU), the University of New England (UNE), the University of Newcastle (UoN), and Southern Cross University (SCU) joined forces to deliver a unified message. The session addressed:

  • The Value of Higher Education: Discussing why university remains a powerful pathway for regional students.

  • Application Processes: A detailed breakdown of UAC applications, early entry schemes, and adjustment factors.

  • Financial Planning: An overview of costs, financial support options, and scholarship opportunities.

  • Student Life & Accommodation: Exploring on-campus living versus the benefits of staying at home while utilizing TUC's local support network.

A highlight of the evening was a Q&A panel featuring current university students, who shared authentic insights into campus life and the realities of balancing study with personal commitments.

Direct Engagement and Next Steps

Following the presentation, the event transitioned into a short expo, allowing parents and students to engage directly with representatives from all four universities and the local TUC team. This face-to-face interaction provided a space to ask specific questions and demystify the journey ahead.

For families still navigating their options, TUC continues to offer robust support. Parents with senior students are encouraged to reach out to TUC at any time. Additionally, the campus offers booking sessions with Ben Archer, TUC's in-house Careers Advisor, who provides personalized guidance on the diverse range of pathway options available to Mid Coast students.

The success of the Parent Information Evening underscores TUC's commitment to being a central hub for educational support, ensuring that both students and their families feel informed, supported, and confident as they embark on their university journeys.

Fantastic opportunity for parents and carers to engage. These events would be great to hold annually.
