Writing for Peace: Youth Competition


Calling all young writers in the MidCoast!

The Rotary Club of Taree on Manning invites you to share your vision of peace through stories or poems. Use one of our four key phrases, submit by 3 December 2025, and you could win a Visa gift card. Let your words build bridges—locally and globally.

📚 What to Write: A Short Story or Poem

Your piece must incorporate at least one of the following Rotary‑provided phrases:

  1. Peace in a polarized world

  2. Technology, media and peace building

  3. Environmental issues in peace building

  4. Making peace last

Feel free to weave the phrase naturally into your story or poem.


📧 How to Submit

  1. Attach your Word document to an email.

  2. In the email body, include:

    • Your full name (for contact purposes only)

    • School name

    • Year level (K‑6, Y7‑9, or Y10‑12)

    • Confirmation that the work is original and not AI‑generated

    • Parent/guardian consent (if you’re under 18) – attach a signed consent email or PDF.

  3. Send to: rcoftom@gmail.com

  4. Use the subject line: “Writing for Peace – [Your School] – [Year]”


Key Dates

  • Entries open: 10am, Wednesday 22 October 2025

  • Entries close: 5pm, Wednesday 3 December 2025

  • Winners announced: Wednesday 17 December 2025


Entry Categories & Prizes

Visa Gift Cards will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize in each of the following categories:

  • Primary School (K-6): Maximum 500 words.

    • 1st $150 | 2nd $100 | 3rd $50

  • Junior High School (Year 7-9): Maximum 750 words.

    • 1st $150 | 2nd $100 | 3rd $50

  • Senior High School (Year 10-12): Maximum 1,000 words.

    • 1st $200 | 2nd $150 | 3rd $100

  • Open to any student residing in the MidCoast LGA (public, private, or homeschool).


Entry Guidelines:

  1. Only one entry per student may be submitted.

  2. The entrant must nominate the name of their school and the Year (K to 6, Year 7 to 12)  they are in.

  3. At least one of the phrases from Rotary’s contribution to promoting Peace must be included.

  4. Entries must be in Word document format only (.doc or .docx) sent as an attachment by email to 'Rotary Club Taree on Manning' rcoftom@gmail.com

  5. Entries must be the original work of the student. No AI-generated submissions.

  6. Entries must not exceed the maximum word length in each school category.

  7. Students must not include their name anywhere on their attached word document . All entries will be judged anonymously.

  8. Students under 18 years old must have parent/guardian consent to enter the competition provided by email to 'Rotary Club Taree on Manning' rcoftom@gmail.com
