Michael Roohan

Managing Director at MJR Accountants

What’s your connection to the MidCoast?

I moved from Newcastle to Wingham in 1998, to take up a career opportunity with a local accounting firm, with the opportunity to become a part owner. In 2011 I established MJR Accountants and our business currently employs 8 other local people. I married Katrina in 2005, and we now have two teenage children.

At the community level I have been a member of the Rotary Club of Wingham for over 20 years, am a life member of the Wingham Cricket Club, and president of the Manning Junior Cricket Association. I’m passionate in helping develop the younger members of our community through sport, as well as through Rotary projects such as the ACMF (Australian Childrens Music Foundation).

Why TUC? What does this project mean to you?

TUC provides further opportunities for members of our community by enabling them to access Tertiary education closer to home. Having two teenage children I understand the considerations of degree choice, as well as the practical and financial implications of contemplating study away from home. TUC allows our community to stay close to family and access education to enable future success.

As a business owner I believe TUC will help attract and retain local talent, helping solve challenges of labour shortages, and further bolstering business in our local region.

What does success look like for you and TUC?

By providing access to opportunities TUC enables members of our community to achieve their full potential. TUC is a wonderful resource, and I hope to see many more students complete their studies, and new study options continue to emerge, which will contribute to personal wellbeing and the vibrance of our region.
